Spielberg, 17 August 2025 — Marc Marquez claimed a hard-fought victory at the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, his first MotoGP win at the Red Bull Ring and a result that tightens the 2025 championship race after Saturday’s record-breaking sprint.
Record Sprint Streak Intensifies
Marc Márquez kicked off the Austrian Grand Prix weekend in clinical form, extending his sprint race mastery with a commanding victory. Starting from the second row (fourth on the grid) after a late Q2 crash at Turn 2 derailed his pole ambitions, Márquez demonstrated remarkable composure and tactical savvy.
Despite the setback, he swiftly regained momentum, recovering from the mid-pack to storm past his brother Álex on lap 10, ultimately winning the sprint by 1.180 seconds. He now has 12 wins in 13 MotoGP sprints this season, including 10 consecutive sprint wins, a run unmatched in modern MotoGP, and, notably, his sixth consecutive sprint GP double (sprint plus Grand Prix win) since the British GP in May.
MotoGP Sprint Wins Leaderboard (2025)

1 | 2025 | Marc Márquez | 12 |
2 | 2023 | Jorge Martín | 9 |
3 | 2024 | Pecco Bagnaia | 7 |
His sprint success pushed his championship buffer to a massive 123 points, underlining not only his superiority on Saturdays but his unassailable lead in the title race.
Spielberg GP Triumph Ends Austrian Drought
In the main Grand Prix, coinciding with MotoGP’s 1,000th premier-class race, Marc Márquez finally conquered the technically demanding Red Bull Ring. The Spielberg circuit, which had previously eluded him, now officially welcomes his name to its list of champions.
Starting from fourth on the grid, nestled in the second row after a late qualifying crash in Q2, Márquez turned that adversity into advantage. Early in the race, he executed a flawless maneuver past his brother Álex at Turn 1 and then sliced through the field to challenge Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi, who had claimed his first pole of the season with a 1:28.060 lap time, just 0.160 seconds ahead of Márquez.
From that point on, Márquez displayed tactical brilliance. He bided his time until Lap 20, then timed his decisive move perfectly to sweep past Bezzecchi. Behind them, rookie standout Fermín Aldeguer, who climbed from eight surged into podium contention, winning the Rider of the Race title.
Aldeguer delivered a stunning charge, overtaking Bezzecchi on Lap 23 and nearly pressuring Márquez himself late in the race, before Marc reasserted control, maintaining a gap of approximately one second to the finish line.
The season’s 5th consecutive GP win also means Márquez has now moved past Giacomo Agostini’s 68 to 70 premier-class career victories, leaving him just 19 wins behind Valentino Rossi’s all-time record.
All-Time MotoGP Race Wins
Rank | Rider | Wins | Races | Win % |
1 | Valentino Rossi | 89 | 372 | 23.9% |
2 | Marc Marquez | 70 | 201 | 34.8% |
3 | Giacomo Agostini | 68 | 198 | 58.1% |
Márquez’s win rate now stands at approximately 34.8%, ahead of Agostini’s 34.3% and Rossi’s 23.9%, a contrast made more striking by Agostini having raced far fewer times in the 1960s and 1970s.
The #93 also adds another podium finish to his tally, bringing his total to 122, further stamping his second position on the all-time list.
