The AGVSPORT licensing business model
In 1985 the founder of AGV Helmets, Gino Amisano entered into a licensing agreement with Michael Parrotte to create a line of motorcycle apparel with the AGV brand name. In the first years, the products were branded as “AGV” and used the same tricolor trademark as the helmets.
Some years later “sport” was added to the AGV brand name because most apparel requires a long logo for aesthetic reasons. In the early 1990’s AGV Helmets owned half of AGV Sports Group later in the decade AGV’s s interest was purchased back and in 2001 AGV Sports Group became a completely independent company with worldwide ownership of the AGVSPORT brand name.
The AGVSPORT brand is represented in different countries by independent license holders who own the exclave right to the AGVSPORT brand in their country. All of the license holders operate in a type of “co-operative” or “union” and share their ideas and work on product development, sponsorship, marketing, advertising, and other related matters. All of the license holders work in a global partnership to develop the best products and promote the AGVSPORT brand.
This team approach creates a worldwide network of people who are not only professionals in their business but passionate motorcycle enthusiasts as well. This integrated network of license holders sharing the latest information from their home market allows the AGVSPORT brand to stay on the cutting edge of high-performance motorcycle safety gear.
The AGVSPORT brand has been represented over the years in many countries including Australia, Italy, Canada, France, Brazil, Thailand, Spain, Russia, New Zealand, Argentina, United Kingdom, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Vietnam, and Korea.

Having its origin in the safety helmets gave AGV Sports Group a unique outlook in the apparel industry. Founded in 1985, AGV Sports Group sought to introduce more technical features into motorcycle apparel instead of relying on style alone as was the common practice. AGVSPORT products have consistently won best-in-class awards from numerous motorcycle publications around the world.
A high-tech “helmet” mentality drives the development of most of the AGV Sports Group’s products. AGV Sports Group provides motorcyclists with a line of both affordable entry-level products as well as world-class high-end products handcrafted in Italy.

All of our sponsored racers have been an integral part of the research and development team. Unlike most other apparel manufacturers, the identical AGVSPORT products worn by the professional riders we sponsor can be purchased by the general public.
In addition to the information, we collect from our world-class professional riders a lot of input is received from our customers and our own personal experience. We are passionate about the sport and all the personnel involved in product development at AGV Sports Group ride and are among the sport’s greatest enthusiasts.
